Dissertation topic: ‘Ne mali fiant times? - nascuntur. Retribution and inheritance of guilt in Seneca's tragedies’
The dissertation project is based on a recurring motif in Seneca's tragedies, which understands the state of guilt in a supra-individual context and sees it as an inherited disposition to evil. Hereditary guilt is repeated and reproduced through negative retribution and passed on from generation to generation. What is mythologically known as the ‘gender curse’ and philosophically identified with the Stoic concept of fate (fatum) will now be explored in terms of its dramaturgical function and intrinsic value for Seneca Tragicus.
