I aim to analyze in this dissertation project which immaginations of family are constructed in the medieval german textual genres of medieval monastery foundation narratives and nuns' vitae. The points of focus will be the usage of family-based semantics (mother, father, sister etc.) in a monastic and secular context, which are still in use today. Additionally, how those family constructs act in relation to each other (competition, interdependence etc.) and what consequences this has on the alleged historical narration in the specified textual genres will be examined in this project.
